baby has been sleeping for longer at night since last week and it has given us much needed precious rest at night. we have enjoyed (yes, when you are sleep-deprived, you are grateful for any additional sleep time you can get) 6-7 hours in between feeds for most days, which means she is up at around 3am after going to bed around 8-9pm. her next feed is around 6-7am. i guess that counts as sleeping through the night, since if we were to put her to bed at 11pm, it would allow us to sleep until 5am. but we think a 8-9pm turning in time is better for us and baby since that should be her bedtime in future anyway. it also affords us some alone time every night. lovely.
some things that helped us reach this stage so early on:
- rather strict scheduling of the late afternoon and evening activities such that she lands up all bathed and fed by 8.30pm latest. i think using the babywise scheduling method as a guide really helped with regulating baby's day in terms of feeding and napping intervals.
- aircon temperature of no more than 23 degrees with the fan on to circulate the cold air, as baby hates the heat (she should have been born in more temperate climes)
- bottle feeding of 5oz of milk as the last feed of the day before she goes to bed. basically giving baby a full feed to keep her tummy full for longer.
extremely thankful that things have worked out this way. and for the hubby who usually takes the 6-7am feed, which gives me time to sleep-in. getting 6-7 hours of sleep, even in two chunks is good enough to take me through the following day.
