hoping this phase passes soon, because i am not programmed to handle clingy babies that do not sleep!!

18 months - fussypot
not sure what got over baby this past week but she has been really clingy and difficult especially at night. she keeps insisting her pajamas is uncomfortable (pain pain!) and asks to go to the loo so that she can pee but also to get out of her pajamas and her bedroom. it has also taken her longer than usual to fall asleep. it was hard coping for me as i was feeling under the weather and work was also getting to me.
18 months - check-up
baby got her chicken pox vaccine today and she cried and protested all the way out of the nurse's room. wasn't unexpected though, since she's such a strong character and doesn't like to be held down.
vital stats are all in the 97th percentile. she's weighing in at 12.6kg and 86.5cm. head circumference is 49cm. she can do everything the health booklet says babies her age can do and more. "identify 3 parts of her body" is soooo yesterday given that we've probably run out of visible body parts to teach her already. :) very glad i have a smart cookie!!

17 months - in a nutshell
this is my 17-month old - a bubbly talkative opinionated smart and very active little girl. she makes everyone love her, but she ain't so friendly with those her age ... she's always saying "scratch baby!" and will not hesitate to bully kids who are bigger and older than her if she needs to. although it's been getting better this month compared to previously.
she can sing many songs and her favourite ones to sing are baa baa black sheep, the wheels on the bus and i'm a little teapot, although she always asks me to sing oh christmas tree and hush little baby to her at night.
she loves naming the stuff she sees when she is out with us - bird, big truck, policeman, grapes, pineapple ... so many words she can say that i can't keep track anymore.
she can jump with two feet off the ground, climb up steps without holding onto anything, and can climb up the playground ladders/poles that have steps close together enough for her to step up on. it always gives me a heart attack to see her tackle these climbing structures with so much gusto, but she's sure of foot (she'll ask that we take off her shoes for better grip) and so i have slowly learnt to let her have her space to explore without being a worrywart.

17 months - and sick
this is the longest and worst bout of flu/cough that baby has ever had since she was born. she probably caught a bug at the zoo because she fell sick on the sunday afterwards. on tuesday she had no voice and we moved her to our room to sleep just to monitor her better since we probably wouldn't have heard her if she woke up crying in her room. we all had a bad night's sleep because she had such belaboured breathing that it kept us up and also woke her up a few times. she spent the rest of the week all whiney and dribbly. brought her to the doc's twice since she didn't seem to be getting better after 4 days of medication and maybe because of the change in meds (to FEDAC - lifesaver!!) or because she was on the path to recovery by friday already, she's much better today.
she's lost quite a bit of weight given that she didn't drink or eat much for most of the week. her stuffed nose made her all frustrated with drinking milk from the bottle (usually fail proof way of getting in some calories since she's such a fan of milk), and she refused to eat or drink much else. "我不要" and "i don't want lab" were on repeat for most of the past few days. everything just didn't suit her. she hated food, her meds, taking her bath, being awake, being sleepy ... it really was a test of my patience. plus with me around, she would be extra clingy and would whine for me to carry her ALL THE TIME. no one could stand in as my substitute. one of those times when i wish i wasn't so needed by her :p
think it wouldn't have been such a draining experience if i didn't have a crazy work assignment due on wednesday morning ... which i had been pulling late nights on for the past week or so. it was just bad timing!
anyway, i am just glad that baby's on the mend! and we are staying away from the splashzone at the zoo until further notice!!

17 months - wet and wild at the zoo
it was sunny enough on saturday to let baby spend some time at the water play area at the zoo, and she really enjoyed herself. she's probably still one of the youngest kids around there, but she was running around just like the rest. she's also enjoying the water slides more now, as she knows how to keep her upper body upright while sliding down and hence doesn't land up with a nose full of water at the bottom of the slide.
all the running around got her really tired and she couldn't keep her eyes open by the time we left around 1pm. what a good way to get her to run off all her energy! :D for once she didn't bug me with "妈妈抱抱" for a whole 45 minutes! because she was having too much fun to remember. amazing!!
anyway, i think this swimsuit i got for her from cotton on kids will last her for some time. since it's meant for 6-year olds - erm, yes. although except for the shoulder straps that needed some adjusting, I don't see how this could be for a 6-year old .... maybe it would just be more fitting. oh well, i was kind of tired of having to keep buying new swim suits that last for only 1-2 uses before she grew out of them, so i will live with slightly baggy swim suit for now!

17 months - happy new year
she chose her outfit this morning - first morning of the new year - and looked mighty pleased when she tried on the hubby's shoes just before heading out.
