week 32 - and D-day gets closer
doc's visit today was long and happily uneventful. baby (she's still a she) was a tease during the growth scan ... she stayed really still for most of the scan, so the ultrasound technician could get most of the necessary measurements done quite easily (good baby!). but towards the end, she kept punching at the ultrasound transducer causing the display to go blurry and the blood flow measurements to go haywire because of the blip in the usual pattern. and there i was lying there feeling really warm (it's me, it's not the air-conditioning, i know) and hoping for the whole session to end. baby is measuring around 1.8kg at the end of 31 weeks, which according to the doc, is a good weight for baby to be. also snuck a peak at some of the body measurements and saw baby was around the 60th percentile, so that's good. normal and boring is good. we see baby again in 3 weeks' time ... by then, we'll be in week 35! was expecting to be scheduled for fortnightly appointments, but apparently not. doc also exempted me from the glucose test. YAY!
the research assistant told us today quite matter-of-factly that we had 5 weeks left before baby came along ... yes, apparently most babies make their appearance at week 37. NOOOOOO ... so not ready for that. please stay inside for longer baby!
in the meantime, i'm supposed to take "long" walks so that the body is all prepped for a natural delivery given that baby is already head down and the placenta has moved up and out of the way. "long" in my doc's dictionary is about 30 minutes ... that's easy-peasy.
we need to get more items off the shopping list - hopefully we tick off the car-seat and cot bedding this weekend.

week 31 - fat feet
oh nooooooo!!
[afternote: walking does miracles to get the swelling down. at least i wake up with normal looking feet. i like. have also found a make-shift leg rest for the office - an upside down plastic waste paper basket! improvisation people!]

week 30 - belly button spring cleaning
all the grit and grime (that i never knew existed) in my very deep and cavernous belly button have been cleaned out! not because the belly button has "popped" but thanks to a very determined me.
in baby shopping news, we've gotten a baby seat/rocker! this should keep baby entertained and safely strapped in when i have other stuff to do around the house. and since it's portable, i'll always be able to keep an eye on her. *pleased*

week 30 - and feeling the bulge
i am finally feeling the weight of carrying baby around. i don't think i am walking as fast as i used to, and i feel like a bag of wet cement every time i move. the belly is also getting in the way of my slouching ... bah! baby also has been pressing on my bladder more when she moves, which means i feel the urge to pee very often.
baby seems to have gone on a growth spurt this past 1-2 weeks. she's on the move very often and sometimes her knee/elbow/head/butt sticks out and i just can't help but give it a slight nudge. she obligingly moves most of the time, which is really cute. also love it that every morning when i wake up and put my hands on my tummy, baby seems to know and gives me a morning kick. love her!!
i can't believe there is still 9 more weeks for baby to grow inside of me. got space?!?!
this video of a little girl finding out she was going to be a big sister made the hormone-high me cry in the office (because i sneaked a peek while at work). thank goodness for an office tucked away in a corner.

week 29 - shopping for baby
baby cot, check! found this sturdy baby cot today which will probably last baby for some time. really like that the cot is solid enough to withstand any amount of rattling by baby when she gets older. still remember how my sis used to use her body weight to push and pull on the cot side and the whole cot would shake. definitely not going to happen with this cot!
went for a long morning walk today and piled back all the burnt calories this afternoon with a sinful red velvet cake slice. gah.

week 29 - babyquakes!!
we have been experiencing babyquakes measuring 5.0 on the richter scale! baby's movements are making waves that are so visible from outside. she is quite a strong one and i wonder what she is doing inside to cause all these quakes. the hubby says she is busy tidying her little room and shifting stuff around. heh.
the last thing i feel at night before i fall asleep is baby moving around and the first thing to greet me in the morning (after the hubby does his usual kiss me awake alarm) is to feel baby kick as i say good morning to her.
i love my baby!!

week 28 - making space for baby
have been trying to clear out unwanted stuff (including stuff we had forgotten we have) from the study and the spare room (baby's room!) over the past few weeks to make room for baby's stuff when we eventually get down to doing the shopping. all the shelves in baby's room are now empty, the clothes cupboard inherited from pre-wedding days that was in the spare room has been tossed out, and the study room shelves are now much more organised.
here is what i think we will need to get before baby comes:
- baby cot
- infant car seat
- cloth and disposable diapers
- milk bottles etc
will add to the list as we go along. there's not much time left and we haven't done most shopping except for the clothes drawers.

week 28 - pregnancy brain strikes again
this week just before a meeting for which i was the secretary, i wondered for awhile to myself and then out loud to the boss about why the projector wasn't showing the slides on my laptop even after checking that the projector was on and toggling the f4 button a few times. realised later that i hadn't plugged in the projector cable to my laptop. my boss was quite amused. thankfully i didn't call down the tech guys to check out the "problem" as the only problem was apparently my loss of brain cells.
