she turns 2!

somehow it got into her head that her birthday was just around the corner and i think she was all excited and eager for the day of her school birthday celebration to come. she knew she would be singing "happy birthday to h..." instead of "to mama/papa etc" and she was all ready I go to school today because we told her we would be singing the birthday song to her.
just so happened that the school had planned for a mini excursion/walk to the nearby playground and a picnic within the school compounds on the same day, so we joined in and helped shepherd the rest of the kids along the way. it was also nice seeing how h interacted with her teachers and classmates. it's amazing how the teachers are able to keep control of the class of 12 toddlers. they all fall in line quite readily when asked by the teachers, and never once asked to be carried.
we got her strawberry vanilla cupcakes (from 12 cupcakes) with peppa pig cake toppers (bought from etsy) stuck on the icing. in keeping with the peppa pig theme, we also got her classmates a peppa pig book each (bought from book depository). the kids liked the cupcakes judging by the leftover crumbs ... but then again who doesn't like cake??!!
i NEVER had a chance to celebrate my birthday in school as a kid as my birthday falls during the school holidays (and i wasn't in childcare), so i was quite excited about today as well.
as the pictures show, she enjoyed herself and the attention (in a quietly pleased sort of way i feel). when she first saw the tray of cupcakes, she said "peppa pig!" in a happy non-squealy way, which made me feel like wow, this girl had some restraint afterall. haha.

23 months - pillow talk

putting baby to sleep is getting more fun now that she has conversations with me before turning in.
unless she's really tired, she also doesn't sleep immediately after her bottle of milk, so it means TALK-time!
so we will lie in the dark room, and she will sometimes go over to the window and tell me when the train rolls into the station and mention that people are getting on and off (yes we live THAT close to the station). she will tell me about the vehicles going past downstairs. she will answer my questions about school. like today, she told me she didn't like the soup in school and it spilt on her tshirt and so her teacher had to change her. and she tells me if she makes others cry in school.
and then she will sing random songs that i need to figure out. and when i can't she will say "mummy don't know this song".
