baby has been enjoying her solids so far. she has been having two mush meals per day and has been preferring the food over milk during those meals, which is also somewhat of a relief as my milk supply has been going down ever since starting work again (but more of that in another post). we know she loves her food because she always opens her mouth when she sees the spoon coming towards her, and when i am too slow with the next spoonful, she "complains". she also makes "num num" sounds as she eats and can finish around four or more heaped tablespoons of whatever food we are feeding her. it has been fun prepping her food and seeing her enjoy it so far.
the following would be the food prep/feeding equipment that i have found useful:
- nuk's annabel karmel food bowl and masher, which is really great for mashing up stuff like banana, avocado, cooked root veggies etc for immediate feeding. a blender is probably still required if prepping food in large quantities for storing away.
- buffalo thermos mug with screw on lid is really portable and useful for keeping baby's food warm when going out. it is also just the right size for two meals' worth of food. i would hate having to lug around a bulky thermos flask ... on top of the cool pack for baby's milk!
- munchkin soft tipped spoons make feeding a breeze. in fact we were using these spoons from much earlier already to feed baby with water. plus they come in really bright colours.
- blender for puréeing stuff in large quantities
baby has progressed from eating single ingredient meals to having more varied foods as well. she loves her brown rice porridge combined with mashed carrots, puréed sweet potatoes, spinach and/or fish. she has also tried strawberries on their own, banana with avocado, as well as rice cereal with pear purée. will be aiming to add broccoli, papaya, pumpkin and apples to her meals soon. how exciting!
