18 months - more about school

baby's gotten used to bring dropped off at school every morning now. it was waterworks and crying even before we reached the school door for a week but from wednesday this week, she's fussed but complains for a few seconds and then settles down while we make a quick exit so that she knows we are not going to come back even if she tries her waterworks. 

what a relief! 

i still get a full load of complaints every morning though:

"no go school", "go playground only", "go gai gai only", "mama go together", "don't like school", "don't want teacher" and such. 

even though when my mum spoke with baby over the phone today and asked her if she liked school, baby gave an emphatic "yes!" heh.

we will be moving baby to another childcare centre next week where we think the curriculum will suit her more as there are more outdoor activities and hands-on learning which should keep her interested and occupied. to her, the new school is called "playground school" because of the the many toys and big play area within the school compound. hopefully she likes it!

i have realised that packing baby off to school entails more work for me in the mornings and evenings - to make sure we can fit in dropping off baby and getting me to work at a decent time requires us to get up around 7.30 and get ready before baby gets up around 8. by the time she is dressed and fed, it's 8.25 or so when we pack everyone into the car and take a short drive to the childcare centre. we leave for work around 8.40 from the childcare centre and that gets me to work at 9.15 to 9.30. it so happened that i have had early morning meetings for many of the days this past fortnight so we have had to shift out wake up time to even before 7.30 ... which is a pain for me who is not a morning person. 

after baby sleeps every night i have to get her backpack ready for school the next day, which entails packing her bath towel, diapers, extra set of clothes, milk bottle and milk powder dispenser, and mattress cover into her purple backpack. so yes, more stuff to get done every weekday evening now.

i now have another reason to look forward to the weekends because i get to sleep in until baby wakes up. SHIOK AH!!
